Seattle Police are investigating a shooting death in the Central District that occurred on Friday afternoon.

911 reports of multiple gunshots being heard at 24th Avenue and East Yesler Way started coming in just after 3:15 p.m. Sept. 14, according to an SPD Blotter post.

Detectives connected the shots-fired call to another police response to Harborview Medical Center for a gunshot victim dropped outside the hospital, and established a possible crime scene in the 2400 block of East Yesler Way.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim as 38-year-old Marshall Bennett, and the manner as homicide.

One neighbor who spoke to the Madison Park Times reported ongoing issues with a residence on the corner of 25th Avenue and Yesler Way, which was included in the police tape perimeter.

Madrona Elementary, Washington Middle School, Seattle Girls School and Garfield High School campuses were put on lockdown following the shooting.

Police report witnesses saw a green sedan fleeing the area following the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the SPD tip line at 206-233-5000.

Residents have been demanding a larger police presence and for city representatives to do more about the ongoing gun violence in the Central District as of late, and many are hoping to get more answers to what the city’s long-term plans are during this month’s East Precinct Advisory Council meeting 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Room 142 of Chardin Hall at Seattle University 1020 E. Jefferson St.
