The Madrona Community Council is hosting an emergency preparedness presentation 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Madrona Elementary, 1121 33rd Ave.

“We all know that a very large earthquake is going to hit our region, but most of the time we are too busy to worry about it, never mind actively plan for it,” writes Elizabeth Atcheson in the meeting announcement published in Madrona News.

Seattle Times science writer Sandi Doughton, author of “Full-Rip 9.0: The Next Big Earthquake in the Pacific Northwest,” will provide a slideshow presentation about the pending subduction zone event.

Cindi Barker, coordinator for the city’s Emergency Communication Hubs, will provide tips for how individuals and communities can prepare. The Office of Emergency Management reports many neighborhoods will initially have to fend for themselves in the aftermath of a major disaster event.
