Awards: Seattle Parks and Recreation awarded its Conservation and Stewardship Award to Leschi’s Darrell Howe and Darcy Thompson during the 2011 Denny Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Stewardship.

The couple has donated thousands of hours and applied for and received grants of more than $175,000 to restore Frink and Upper Leschi Parks over 15 years.

They’ve also helped to restore Frink Creek and the half-dozen wetlands in the area.

The Best New Resource Award went to Nobuko Matsumori Anderson, of the Japanese Garden Advisory Council, who created a new event, the Garden Party, to raise money for programming.

Performances: Four local middle-schoolers are performing in this year’s production of “Nutcracker,” by Pacific Northwest Ballet: Elizabeth Birkhold (as Calvary), Amanda Fenton (as Calvary), Nanjin Klein (as Tall Servant) and Helena Reguera (as Scrim Mouse).The production runs through Dec. 27 at Seattle Center’s McCaw Hall.

Broadway Bound: David Breyman, Genevieve Joers, Ivy Page-Salisbury and Sarah Torres will perform in the upcoming Broadway Bound coming-of-age musical production of “13,” which plays at the ACT Theatre from Thursday, Dec. 8, through Dec. 18.
