Individual artists, groups of individual artists, arts/cultural organizations and/or community-based youth programs with non-profit status or sponsorship are invited to apply for the 2006 Youth Arts Program sponsored by the Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Youth Arts provides support for out-of-school arts training projects in all disciplines for Seattle's middle and high school youth. Professional teaching artists lead age-appropriate activities. Creative partnerships with artists and integration of arts into non-art-specific youth programs and settings are encouraged. Priority is placed on serving youth or communities with limited access to arts and culture.
"The Seattle Youth Arts program creates artistic opportunities and teaches life-skills to Seattle teens," Mayor Greg Nickels said. "In other words, this program is giving young artists the tools they need to succeed. I invite professional teaching artists, arts organizations and community-based youth agencies to apply and help us make a difference in young people's lives."
All applicants are encouraged to attend a free application workshop. First-time applicants must attend a session. Included in the first two sessions will be the application process and forms, the peer panel review process, contracts and evaluation, and application tips, as well as answers to questions. Staff will review draft applications in the final session.
For new applicants, this is also an introduction to agency programs, processes and other opportunities. There is no need to pre-register. Sessions are July 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Beacon Hill Branch of the Seattle Public Library, 2821 Beacon Ave. S.; July 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the North East Branch of the Seattle Public Library, 6801 35th Ave. N.E.; and July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Branch of The Seattle Public Library at 425 Harvard Ave. E.
Applicants may also contact staff directly with questions on preparing an application. First-time applicants and applicants new to the program are encouraged to call at least a month before the deadline.
The Youth Arts Program contact is Irene Gómez at 684-7310 or irene.gomez@seattle.gov. For an application, select "Funding Applications" at www.seattle.gov/arts. Applications must arrive at the office by 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 or be postmarked by the U.S. Post Office on or before Aug. 15.[[In-content Ad]]
