CANTERBURY: CAR PROWL

Someone broke into two cars filled with items on 38th Avenue East between midnight and 8 a.m. on March 8.

Although both cars have alarms, neither went off during the night, and there were no signs of forced entry or damage to either car. The owner of both vehicles, who was in the process of moving in, said he might have forgotten to lock the cars' doors.

Among the items missing were a digital camera and a satellite radio.

LESCHI: STOLEN FROM VIEW

In three separate incidents, items in plain view in vehicles were stolen.

Sometime between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on March 3, someone broke into a car n the 100 block of 31st Avenue and stole a purse that was sitting on the passenger seat.

During the same time frame, another purse was stolen from a car near 31st Avenue and East Yesler Way.

Between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on March 12, a laptop computer was stolen from the passenger floor of a car in the 200 block of Lake Washington Boulevard.

BURGLARY

A man arrived home in the 400 block of 30th Avenue South at 8:20 p.m. on March 4 to find it ransacked.

Stolen were six Macanudo cigars and a dozen other expired dry cigars, as well as $30 in change. Several high-priced items in plain view were not taken.

GRAFFITI

About five teenage boys and girls were seen in a vehicle while a boy spray-painted a retaining wall in the 600 block of 37th Avenue. The incident occurred at 2:15 p.m. on March 4.

The officer went to a nearby school to inquire about the suspect's vehicle, but the principal did not know of anyone who drove a similar vehicle.

PHONE HARASSMENT

A family in the 300 block of 29th Avenue called police in March 5 to report that they've been receiving threatening calls at leave five times a day for more than a month. The calls originate from Jamaica.

The caller uses foul language and threatens to kill the family unless they send money. A family member has sent money to the suspect in the past, but the police report did not indicate whether it was a result of the threatening calls.

The family member filing the report said the most recent call came at 4 a.m. that day.

According to the police report, she seemed "somewhat surprised and annoyed" that the responding officer couldn't "simply make the calls stop" from a police desk.

Instead, the officer's suggestion that the family change its phone number "was met with scorn."

DRUGS

Patrol officers found a woman standing watch while two teenage boys huddled under a play structure in a park in the 2800 block of South Jackson Street at 4:45 p.m. on March 22.

Since the area was known for drug, alcohol and gang activity, and because of the suspects' suspicious behavior, the police approached them.

The police recognized the two boys as being active gang members, while the woman was identified as a known drug user.

The woman admitted she had a pipe in her pocket. It was found to have a burnt white residue in it; it was tested positive for crack cocaine and submitted for evidence.

The woman also said she was seeking treatment and that she had recently given birth.

One of the boys, who was smoking a cigarette, was trespassed from the park, while the woman was trespassed from all city parks, pending a drug arrest. The police report did not state what happened to the second boy.

MADISON PARK: BURGLARY

Someone broke into a home in the 1600 block of 42nd Avenue East between 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on March 4 and rummaged through the residents' belongings.

Stolen were two laptop computers, a Wii video-game system, a digital camera, two iPods and a men's watch. Other items may be missing, as well.

CAR PROWLS

A car stereo, an iPod adapter and a CD were stolen from a car in the 2400 block of 41st Avenue East between 1:15 and 9:30 a.m. on March 21.

Someone broke into two cars in the 1800 block of McGilvra Boulevard East, stealing only loose change from one and scattering items in the other. The incident occurred between 8:30 p.m. March 21 and 9 a.m. March 22.

MADISON VALLEY: STOP, LOOK AND STEAL

A woman watched as a man looked at her, then broke into her car to steal a purse that was on the front seat. The suspect, in his 20s, then ran to a vehicle and drove off.

The incident occurred during the few minutes she left her car, around 9 a.m. on March 3, in the 900 block of 32nd Avenue East.

MADRONA: LIBRARY THEFT

A woman left her purse near her children while she went to the restroom at the Madrona-Sally Goldmark Library, in the 1100 block of 33rd Avenue around 3 p.m. on March 11. She returned to discover her purse was missing.

Another library patron said he saw a woman in her mid-20s walking out of the library with a similar purse.

The suspect had been using a library computer just before the theft, so the woman was advised to contact library officials about getting the suspect's information.

TOILET CAMERA

An employee was using a restroom in a business in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way at noon on March 6 when she noticed that a camera was pointed directly at the toilet.

According to the police report, the woman "collected the item with her bare hands" and saw that it was on. She immediately turned it off and called police when business slowed.

THEFT

A man walked into a business in the 1100 block of 34th Avenue at 12:45 p.m. on March 8. An employee immediately recognized him as having stolen from another business she worked at previously.

The suspect, in his 50s to early 60s, said he had cut his face and need to use the restroom to clean up. He returned a few minutes later and left the business.

The employee then noticed that an office door was not closed and the safe was open. She ran outside to see the suspect walk west on East Spruce Street, then north on 33rd Avenue.

The employee told police she had just placed $1,100 in the safe but didn't ensure that the safe was locked.

Around 1:55 p.m., a man matching the suspect's description was seen near 23rd Avenue and Yesler Way. However, the employee, who was taken to the scene, said the man was not the suspect.
