Summer may be but a memory, but that doesn't mean new memories can't be found at the theater. Over at the Kirkland Performance Center there's plenty of offerings to fit all kinds of tastes.
Kicking off the month is the last chance to see "Evita." The famed Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is presented by the Eastside Musical Theatre and follows the incredible story of Argentina's first lady.
As an illegitimate 15-year-old, Eva escaped her poor background for the bright lights and big city of Buenos Aires. She was a starlet at 22, the president's mistress at 24, First Lady at 27 and dead at 33.
Eva Peron, a saint to the working-class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military, was destined to leave a fascinating political legacy unique in the 20th-century. Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, Evita creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.
The show is not recommended for those under 13.
"Evita" take place on October 3, 4 and 5. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 for youths.
"The Mystical Arts of Tibet," featuring traditional Eastern music from the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, is a return engagement for KPC. Touring since 1988, when monastic elders first allowed a tour of the west to perform for "world purification and planetary healing."
The monks use traditional temple instruments in combination with multiphoic singing to create sounds that are truly other-worldly.
As a special part of their visit, the monks will construct an intricate mandala sand painting in the KPC lobby and will oversee another mandala made by KPC visitors.
"The Mystical Arts of Tibet" takes place on October 10 and 11. Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for youths.
Next up is another "Live! By George" radio program put on by Classic KING FM. Host George Shangrow takes the program on the road on the first Monday of each month. "Live! By George" is a unique showcase for soloists and groups performing live.
This series offers the extraordinary opportunity to be part of the audience for a live radio broadcast, as well as to see and hear some great music. It's live, and it's free.
"Live! By George" takes place on October 20. Tickets are free, but call the KPC box office to confirm availability.
