Seattle Opera Day at MOHAI this Saturday

More than 500 people are expected to attend Seattle Opera Day on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Museum of History & Industry (860 Terry Ave. N.).

The free, family-friendly event will include dozens of hands-on activities, a live concert of outstanding music and operatic insights from this region’s top professionals.   

Get a sneak peak of the elaborate costumes used in the 2014-15 season. Exhibits include stagecraft, costume design and special effects.

Scheduled events include:

•Live stage combat and sword demonstration and hair and makeup demonstration, 11 a.m.

•Costume Talk, 11:20 a.m.

•Opera performance b soprano Marcy Stonikas and tenor Ric Furman, fresh from Seattle Opera’s third International Wagner Competition; and

•Kazoo Orchestra, with 500 free kazoos, 1:45 p.m.
