Garfield Symphony to perform Handel’s ‘Messiah’

Singers, music lovers and holiday revelers are invited to join the Garfield Symphony Orchestra (GSO) in a performance of Georg Handel’s beloved “Messiah” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at Seattle First Baptist Church (1111 Harvard Ave.). Anyone from operatic divas to in-the-shower singers are invited, as is anyone who simply wants to listen.

Tickets are $15 ($10 students). Singers are welcome to bring their own score; rental copies will be available for a small fee. Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.

GSO conductor Marcus Tsutakawa will conduct from a symphonic edition of the score, published in 1902 by Ebenezer Prout.

The evening will also feature Seattle tenor Derek Sellers singing the recitative “Comfort Ye My People” and the aria “Every Valley Shall Be Exalted.”
