After a summer break, the Leschi Community Council begins its monthly meetings on Sept. 3 with representatives from the Seattle Department of Transportation.
They will discuss changing traffic patterns on Yesler Way, the reduction to two lanes on 23rd Avenue and the ongoing problem of speeding traffic on Lake Washington Boulevard through the business district.
Pedestrian safety is a major concern.
The meetings take place at the Central Area Senior Center (500 30th Ave. S., one block south of South Jackson Street). Meetings start at 7 p.m.

Madison Park
The summer hiatus is just about over.
At the Madison Park Community Council’s (MPCC) annual meeting on May 27, Mayor Ed Murray addressed his plans for the city and answered many questions from the audience. It was a great opportunity to not only meet our new mayor but to get a feel for what kind of a person will guide the city for the next four years.
New officers were elected at the annual meeting: Maurice Cooper, president; Carol Loe, first vice-president; John Madrid, second vice president; Doug Berry, treasurer; and Megan Walton, secretary.
Kudos are owed to departing board members Gail Irving and Alice Lanczos, both past presidents, as well as to all of our board members.

Steve Lorber worked his magic again, leading the Spring Tree Walk, beguiling about 75 neighbors through Madison Park and informing all about the types, habits and origins of many specimens. He is willing to lead a Fall Tree Walk so look for an announcement of the details.
Be sure to put Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. on your calendars. We are holding a public meeting at Park Shore Retirement Community (1630 43rd Ave. E.) about improving crime prevention in your home and in our neighborhood. Representatives of the Seattle Police Department and private security experts will be there to give constructive and practical advice on how to make your home, car and yourselves safer.

The MPCC will join the Madison Park Business Association in sponsoring the upcoming Art Walk. The opening salvo will be fired on Sept. 7, so put it on your calendar as it promises to be a barn-burner.
