He will receive a $1,000 award at a special awards gala at MOHAI on Friday, Nov. 7.
Ewing collaborated with MOHAI, the Bezos Center for Innovation and MakerHaus on a month-long project in which the students studied Washington state history and what it means to be innovative.
Each team of students designed an invention that they could use to promote student safety. Projects ranged from handheld safety devices to a school blazer equipped with GPS. The students created prototypes of their inventions at MakerHaus. They presented their final projects, including the prototypes and animated videos, at MOHAI.
The prototypes students designed are now part of the MOHAI collection of artifacts.
Ewing plans to repeat the process with this year’s fifth-graders at Mount View, focusing on music.
