Seattle Public Schools will host its first Memorial Football Classic this weekend at Memorial Stadium (401 Fifth Ave. N.) to raise funds for athletics transportation.
For the first time in more than 12 years, all high schools in the district will play in the same league. The event will celebrate the reunification of the Metro League with 10 schools competing on Friday, Sept. 12, and Saturday, Sept. 13.
On Friday, Seattle Prep will play Kennedy Lancers at 5 p.m., followed by O’Dea Fighting Irish versus Mariner Marauders at 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday, Bainbridge Spartans will play Cleveland Eagles at noon, Roosevelt Rough Riders battle against Ballard Beavers at 3 p.m. and Garfield Bulldogs take on Franklin Quakers at 6 p.m.
Seattle City Councilmember Bruce Harrell, a Garfield High School and University of Washington alumnus and National Academic All-American First Team in Football, will host the Classic. The special honored guest is Franklin High School alumnus and Metropolitan King County Councilmember Larry Gossett.
Military veterans will be admitted free of charge to the Classic, with ID.
