Seattle Animal Shelter open house on Saturday

Join the “pawty” at the Seattle Animal Shelter (2061 15th Ave. W.) on Saturday, Oct. 4, as the shelter participates in Pawsitive Alliance’s third-annual statewide Shelter Open House event.

From noon to 6 p.m., enjoy cookies in the lobby and meet adoptable dogs, cats and critters; learn about shelter volunteer programs and find out how to obtain a pet license or low-cost spay/neuter surgery. The first 20 cat or dog adopters will receive gift bags.

Pawsitive Alliance is coordinating this statewide event to spotlight animal shelters in Washington and homeless animals in their care. The alliance’s goal is to help shelters grow their adopter, donor and volunteer bases, while raising awareness of the work they do on a daily basis for animals in need.

At Saturday’s event, adopters will be able to take advantage of the shelter’s “Fall in Love with a Pre-owned Pet” promotion. Through Oct. 12, pet adoptions are only $15, plus applicable two-year license fees. Both in-shelter and foster animals at least 6 months old qualify for the special pricing, although some high-interest animals are excluded.

The adoption fee includes a certificate for a free health exam, initial vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip and more. Seattle residents must purchase a two-year pet license with each adoption; the license fee is $27 for cats and $37 for dogs. Critter adoptions do not require licensing.

The Seattle Animal Shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. for adoptions and licensing. For more information, call (206) 386-7387 (PETS), or view animals available for adoption online at www.seattleanimalshelter.org
