Modern Home Tour highlights six Seattle homes
The Modern Home Tour returns to Seattle for a fourth year on May 2 to give people a chance to explore and view some examples of modern architecture via self-guided driving tour.
Homes on this year’s tour include:
• The “Aurea Residence,” a modern home in Magnolia designed by architect Chris Pardo;
•The “Backyard House,” a speculative infill development in the Atlantic neighborhood that takes its name from its site: the subdivided backyard of an existing single-family house. Designed by SHED Architecture & Design, the house is situated on the western half of the lot on the edge of a bluff;
•The 18th Avenue City Homes project, designed by architect/developer team Malboeuf Bowie Architecture, located on a narrow, sloping lot within the Central Area;
•Architect James Chiarelli’s personal Maple Leaf residence, built between 1948 and 1950 but renovated by current owners, to update the interior while honoring the original design. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (2012) and the Washington Heritage Register (2012) and as a City of Seattle Landmark (2014).
•An artistic “treehouse” in Washington Park, designed by Prentiss Architects. It underwent an extensive remodel in 2007.
•A second home near Washington Park showcasing a complete renovation and transformation of an old 1920 Dutch Colonial.
