Fred Hutch’s Obliteride to spin through neighborhoods

Obliteride riders will cycle through the Washington Park Arboretum, Madison Valley, Madrona and Leschi on Sunday, Aug. 9, to raise funds to benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Obliteride has five routes to choose from, ranging from 10 to 150 miles. Obliteride’s new 10-mile, controlled-course ride around Lake Union takes about an hour and needs no training. Funds raised from this route benefit women’s cancer research at Fred Hutch.

People interested in riding or cheering on the riders can find maps of the routes on the Obliteride website (www.obliteride.org).

The Obliteride weekend includes parties and a Tom Douglas salmon dinner. All riders are treated to a kickoff party at Gas Works Park on Friday, Aug. 7. The private party is a thank you to riders who raise at least $500 to participate.

Obliteride has raised more than $4 million in two years. All money raised goes to cancer research at Fred Hutch.

People interested in participating can still sign up to ride, donate or volunteer. Riders have until Sept. 30 to complete their fundraising.
