Madison Park resident John Blanchett was shot three times on June 28, during an apparent gang-related incident at a restaurant in Evansville, Ind., where he was visiting on business.
The bullets broke both of Blanchett’s hips and his pelvis, shattered his right femur and caused significant internal damage, primarily to his small intestine and bladder.
Blanchett is being cared for in the Trauma Center at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, where he has already undergone three major surgeries since the shooting. He may face more, as one of the bullets has yet to be removed, due to its proximity to his spinal chord.
Soon, Blanchett will be transferred to Saint Mary’s Rehabilitation Institute for in-patient rehabilitation, where he will begin physical and occupational therapies.
While he remains positive and is committed to becoming mobile and self-sufficient again, family members say Blanchett is currently unable to get out of bed without assistance and can barely manage 15 to 20 steps with the aid of a walker and therapist.
The cost of the medical care Blanchett has received will far exceed the total coverage provided by his insurance. He will still need further treatment and therapy. Family and friends have established a Gofundme campaign to help with his medical expenses: www.gofundme.com/JohnBlanchett.
