Madison BRT work continues

The Madison Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project team recently released the preferred alternative for the project, a result of a yearlong planning effort and collaboration with people who live and work in the Madison Street corridor.

The project team looked at many alternatives, including:

•Different routes and lane configurations downtown;

•Center- and side-running options from Eighth Avenue to 20th Avenue East; and

•Different eastern terminus options, at 23rd Avenue East or Martin Luther King Jr. Way, both served by the BRT in mixed traffic.

The project team is now in the process of seeking City Council approval of the preferred concept, preparing to start the 30-percent design process and pursuing additional regional and federal grant funding to advance the project.
