The Central Area Senior Center (500 30th Ave. S.) has received a $24,500 matching grant from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ Small and Simple Projects Fund.
The project — which is partially funded with a community match of $29,600 in raised money, donated materials and volunteer labor — is “Memory Lane: A Seniors Digital Story, 1920-WWII.” The oral-history project will highlight the stories of seniors who grew up in the Central Area during that time period, focusing on the themes of community and change.
The stories will be digitally documented for distribution.
The Small and Simple Projects Fund, which provides awards of up to $25,000 to community organizations, opens again to applications early this year; the deadline is Feb. 2. To learn more, visit www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/nmf/smallandsimple.htm.
