Three utility employees injured at East Pine substation

Three Seattle City Light employees were injured at the East Pine Substation (23rd Avenue and East Pike Street) today around 1:55 p.m. and were taken to Harborview Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is still to be determined, according to the utility’s statement.

The construction crew was trying to install a ground rod inside the substation when their equipment caused an electric arc from an underground power line. The accident triggered a power outage affecting nearly 10,000 customers across a wide area of Seattle east of Interstate 5, including the Madison Park, Madrona and Capitol Hill.

The outage has been restored.
