Lake Washington Blvd. closes to traffic this weekend

Crews working on the state Route 520 West Approach Bridge North Project will close Lake Washington Boulevard in the Montlake neighborhood from 9 a.m. Saturday, July 18, to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 19.

The closure is needed to replace old water and electric lines and pave the street’s reconfigured westbound lanes.

When the street reopens Monday, it will have a second westbound lane between 24th Avenue East and Montlake Boulevard.

Construction activity on both days is scheduled to occur between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., though crews could work past 10 p.m. on Sunday, if necessary, to ensure that the street reopens before the Monday morning commute.

All lanes and sidewalks of Lake Washington Boulevard East will close in both directions from Montlake Boulevard to East Roanoke Street.

From East Roanoke Street south to the SR 520 ramps to and from Lake Washington Boulevard, only the street’s northbound lane will close.

All SR 520 on- and off-ramps in Seattle will remain open.

On Montlake Boulevard, the pedestrian island on the southeast corner Lake Washington Boulevard East and the sidewalk along the northeast corner will close on Saturday, July 18. Both sections of sidewalk will remain closed for one to two weeks so crews can finish widening the sidewalks and complete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements.

The left lane of northbound Montlake Boulevard between Lake Washington Boulevard East and the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard will close from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Crews will work on the new traffic signal where the westbound SR 520 off-ramp meets Montlake Boulevard.
