The following are selected reports from the Seattle Police Department. They represent the officers’ accounts of the events described.
DENNY-BLAINE: SCARED OFF
A man returned to his home in the 500 block of Lake Washington Boulevard East around 3:40 p.m. on May 6 to find it had been burglarized.
He showed responding officers a broken window on his back door, which the police think the burglar broke out to reach in and unlock the door.
The burglar exited through the front door.
Nothing was disturbed or taken during the incident. The police report noted that the activated alarm most likely scared the burglar.
LESCHI: RIDING AWAY
Someone entered an unlocked back door to a home in the 500 block of 30th Avenue South between 1 and 8 p.m. on May 12, stealing three skateboards just inside.
The residents were home with other guests during the incident.
The next day, someone cut a rope chain lock and stole four bicycles from the garage.
ALARMING BREAK-IN
A man in the 500 block of 31st Avenue South received a call from his alarm company at 12:44 p.m. on May 11 that an exterior door had been opened, which activated the alarm. He called a neighbor, who confirmed that a window had been shattered and the door was unlocked.
Another resident arrived home shortly after, noting that the front door was unlocked. He deactivated the alarm and saw that the kitchen door had been tripped; its deadbolt was unlocked, but the doorknob was locked.
Nothing appeared to be missing or moved other than in a bathroom, where the burglar had broken the window. There, the window screens had been removed and damaged and a towel bar had been ripped from the wall. Also, a landscaping rock similar to those found outside the home, was found on the floor.
Outside, a child gate was found leaning against the house, as if it had been used as a ladder.
Police believe the suspect removed the window screen, threw the rock through the window, climbed in by grabbing the towel bar and walked to the kitchen door, which set off the alarm.
Since the neighbor arrived within minutes of the alarm sounding, the suspect likely fled the home immediately.
MADISON PARK: SURPRISE VISIT
Police responded to a report of an interrupted home burglary in the 3800 block of East Madison Street that occurred at 4 p.m. on May 1.
There, the resident, who was “very distraught,” told police she arrived home to hear noise from her yard. She looked over and saw a female suspect climbing a fence and dropping items that belonged to her.
The resident then saw that back doors were wide open and her home had been ransacked.
A neighbor arrived and saw the suspect walking southbound on McGilvra Boulevard East. He took photos of her with his smartphone as he followed her.
Another neighbor told police that the suspect had gone to her door and asked for some water for her car. The neighbor gave her a filled watering can; she did not see where the suspect went, nor did she get her watering can back.
“A bunch” of the victim’s property was found scattered in front of a home in the 1400 block of 38th Avenue East, including coin-collecting folders and a tote bag containing several bottles of alcohol.
Two purses and several pieces of jewelry were found on the ground at East Galer and Madison streets.
A wrench, a black glove and a piece of paper listing addresses were found at East Lee Street and McGilvra Boulevard. These items and fingerprints found on the bottles of alcohol were submitted for evidence.
The other items were returned to the victim, who couldn’t determine if any other items were missing.
