SGS head to leave for Capitol Hill

The Bertschi School in Capitol Hill has chosen Rafael del Castillo as its next head of school beginning in July 2016.

del Castillo will continue to lead Seattle Girls’ School (2706 S. Jackson St.) as its head of school through the 2015-2016 school year, during which time its board of trustees will conduct a national search for his replacement.

del Castillo has been at SGS for 13 years, including the last five as the head of school, He joined SGS as a member of the inaugural seventh-grade faculty team, which developed a curriculum that would become a signature SGS project, Pay It Forward.

As assistant head of school, he led projects ranging from accreditation to the mission review.

SGS is currently undergoing reaccreditation and strategic planning, which involve evaluating the work the school currently does while looking ahead to its future.
