Fundraiser to benefit suicide prevention efforts

In Washington state, suicide is the second-leading cause of death for young people ages 10 to 24, and 78 percent of firearm deaths are suicides. But there is great reason for hope.

Because of the efforts of Forefront: Innovations in Suicide Prevention, a nonprofit based at the University of Washington (UW), Washington state is the first in the country to require suicide prevention training for doctors, nurses, teachers and mental health professionals.

Forefront will have its annual fundraising event on Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Grand Ballroom in the Husky Union Building (HUB) at UW. Parking is free for registered attendees.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with an appetizer buffet and will include live music and several presentations. Tracy Taylor of KING5-TV will emcee. There is no cost, but registration is required: engage.washington.edu/site/Calendar?id=126681&view=Detail.
