The preview will include an overview of the radio journalism course, activities and practice interviewing, and help applying for the 13-week RadioActive after-school course that will take place at the Columbia Library (4721 Rainier Ave. S.) later this fall.
Youths who complete the 13-week course will earn a $375 stipend. While the radio journalism class is only open to teens ages 16 to 18, all teens interested in this opportunity are encouraged to attend the course overview at Douglass-Truth Branch.
RadioActive Youth Media is a radio journalism program for teens offered by KUOW 94.9 radio. At the 13-week course, participants will get hands-on experience and learn about journalism, audio recording, audio editing, interviewing, writing for broadcast and speaking on the air. Participants will create a radio story on the topic of their choice that will be heard by thousands of people.
