The following are selected reports from the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct. They represent the officers’ accounts of the events described.
LESCHI: Jewelry heist
A man was walking near 28th Avenue South and South Dearborn Street around 9:10 p.m. on April 7 when another man approached him and motioned that he had a gun in his pocket. He then demanded the victim give him his necklace and ring.
The suspect took the items and ran southbound on 28th Avenue.
The victim said he wasn’t certain whether he could identify the suspect if he saw him again. Still, police searched the area with a K-9 unit. The K-9 unit was able to track the suspect to east of the intersection at South Charles Street and 26th Avenue South, but the suspect couldn’t be located.
MADRONA: Unsuccessful first try
Police responded to the 200 block of Erie Avenue to investigate a reported burglary that took place between 8:30 a.m. April 13 and 2 p.m. April 15.
Responding officers arrived to find the glass front door cracked and “ready to fall from the frame,” according to the report.
The residents said they arrived home to find the door cracked and unlocked. The back door was also damaged, with the glass smashed out. The police think the suspects tried unsuccessfully to enter the home through the front door, so he went to the back door.
The suspects climbed through the broken back door to enter the home. They then ransacked a couple of closets, taking only a few jewelry items that were worth a total of about $800. A cash box and a number of electronics were not taken; a vehicle in the garage was also left parked inside.
While the residents didn’t know who would have burglarized their home, they did note that a neighbor’s car was recently stolen.
No fingerprints were found.
