Police received a call about possible shots fired near the intersection of East Union Street and 27th Avenue around 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 1. The caller heard five shots from the west and a car speed away.
Officers arrived shortly after and spoke with the caller, who said he was a balcony in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way when he saw a light-colored vehicle pass a parking lot. A dark-colored vehicle immediately pulled out of the parking lot behind it at a high rate of speed and pulled alongside the first vehicle. Both were heading westbound on East Union Street.
A male passenger in the light-colored vehicle then hung out his window and shot nine times at the other vehicle. Both vehicles continued heading west on Union Street.

When officers interviewed him, the victim said he knew nothing of the incident or who shot him.
