Confused by tax-law changes? Can’t afford a professional preparer? Free tax help is available at neighborhood libraries.
Trained volunteers from AARP will answer questions and help prepare personal tax returns at the Douglass-Truth Library (2300 E. Yesler Way, 206-684-4704) on Thursdays, from 3:30 to 7:45 p.m., through April 14.
United Way of King County volunteers will provide free tax help at:
•Central Library (Fourth Ave., Level 5, Charles Simonyi Mixing Chamber; 206-386-4636 — Monday through Thursday, from noon to 7 p.m.; Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, from 1 to 5 p.m., through April 21; and
•University (5009 Roosevelt Way N.E., 206-684-4063) — Thursdays, from 1 to 5 p.m., through April 21.
Tax help will be offered in English at all locations. In addition, the Central Library will offer help in Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese; the University Branch will offer help in Mandarin. Language availability is subject to volunteer schedules, and not every language is available on every day; call ahead to check when tax help is provided in your desired language.
Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations or appointments are accepted; for more information, call the individual libraries.

Due to federal budget cuts, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) cannot provide certain tax forms and instruction booklets at local libraries. Most IRS forms are available online at www.irs.gov.
