The following are selected reports from the Seattle Police Department. They represent the officers’ accounts of the events described.
LESCHI: Targeted burglary
A man in the 400 block of 30th Avenue arrived home at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 to discover that someone had taken a yard statue and smashed it against the outside of this home.
Also, a tree had scrapes as if someone had climbed it, and a window above it had been pushed in.
Inside, glass and other debris littered the floor underneath the window; this was cleaned up before police arrived. In a bedroom, the bedsheet had been pulled down, a dresser drawer had been pulled open and socks were strewn about the floor. A bathroom drawer was also left open.
A small metal filing cabinet with personal papers and $25 in change were stolen.
No fingerprints were found.
MADISON VALLEY: Wrong home
A woman was falling asleep in her home in the 100 block of 25th Avenue East around 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 8 when she heard someone tampering with the bedroom-window screen. She looked out to see a man staring back at her.
The suspect said he was trying to get into his grandmother’s unit; the woman replied that she was calling police, and the man asked her not to.
The man then ran off in an unknown direction.
The suspect never threatened the woman, nor did he enter her home, according to the police report. There was no damage to the window or to the window screen.
Police checked the area for the suspect but couldn’t locate him.
A box was found lying on the floor; police were able to find multiple fingerprints on it.
Open window
A burglar may have entered through an unsecured window in the 1800 block of 23rd Avenue on Feb. 5.
According to the police report, a man returned home around 5:30 p.m. to find the front door locked but a window opened.
Among the items stolen were two video-game units; a safe containing a Social Security card, a birth certificate and a checkbook; a wristwatch; a pair of $110 shoes; a jar of change; and a backpack.
MADRONA: Quick clear-out
Residents of a home in the 3000 block of East Spring Street arrived home around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 to find that mail and papers were lying on the floor by their front door. They then saw that a back window was open and its lock was broken.
The suspect apparently entered through the back window and rifled through drawers, throwing items about the home, according to the police report.
He then exited through a basement door; a key for it was missing, and the door was left unlocked.
Stolen were a laptop computer, a wallet containing $120 cash and expired credit cards and a silver collectible coins. Multiple guitars, computers, bags of coins and other items were left untouched, which led police to believe the suspect left quickly.
No fingerprints were found; the police think the suspect wore gloves.
