Beginning Monday, March 14, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will deliver and place bridge girders for the West Approach Bridge North Project. A total of 353 girders will be delivered and placed in position on the new state Route 520 bridge through 2016. The girders will eventually support the bridge deck for new westbound lanes between the floating bridge and Montlake Boulevard.
During the first night of girder installation — from 11 p.m. Monday, March 14, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 — crews will close all lanes and ramps of SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and 92nd Avenue Northeast so the trucks can safely maneuver into the construction staging area.
From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 to Friday, March 18, all lanes and ramps of westbound SR 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard will close nightly.
Flaggers will briefly hold traffic in both directions on Lake Washington Boulevard East as trucks turn onto the 24th Avenue East bridge overcrossing.
After the first night of deliveries, intermittent rolling slowdowns will be in place on the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard East and the eastbound SR 520 on-ramp from Montlake Boulevard.
