'Addams Family' musical coming to Garfield High

Garfield High School drama will get creepy and kooky later this month as they present "The Addams Family" for their spring musical.

The show, written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, was first staged on Broadway in 2010. It is based on the original cartoons by Charles Addams, rather than previous adaptations of "The Addams Family" for television or film.

The story revolves around Wednesday Addams as she grows up and tests the boundaries of her family's macabre values by dating a "normal" boy. Both the Addams and her boyfriends' families must come to terms with themselves and their expectations of others as they sit down for dinner.

Performances will take place 7 p.m. May 25-27 and June 1-4, at Garfield's Quincy Jones Performing Arts Center. Admission at the door is $15 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens and $5 for children younger than 10.
