View not the only reason to enjoy BeachHouse

A reader responds to Ronald Holden's May 2016 Food Matters column

I agree with local restaurant writer Ronald Holden’s last paragraph in his somewhat less than enthusiastic review of the BeachHouse restaurant in the May, 2016, Madison Park Times edition. Yes, “the real strong suit of the restaurant is its location overlooking the lake” is in itself a valid reason to enjoy the BeachHouse… but not the only one.

My wife and I felt the rest of his review titled “BeachHouse not so beachy-keen” didn’t represent what we’ve found on numerous visits to this wonderful restaurant. The wait staff, liquid refreshments and entree selections using fresh ingredients have consistently met our expectations. Our most recent visit, as of this writing, was on a ‘steak Tuesday’ night; out the door with a couple glasses of wine, an excellent salad, and a side of sprouts? $75 with a 20 percent tip! Given, it was their Tuesday steak night special but, even so, that’s very reasonable. We might add we were very satisfied with everything.

Perhaps Mr. Holden, while describing the weather during his visit as a “glorious weekend of sunshine”, wasn’t feeling as sunny himself that day. Whatever the reason we appreciate his “Food Matters” column but give him a pass on his BeachHouse review. At the end of the day each person must decide whether or not a given restaurant works for them. For us? As local residents living just a couple blocks down 43rd Avenue East, the BeachHouse is a favorite that we’ll return to again and again.

One final comment: we both appreciate having the Madison Park Times available in our area. We eagerly read each edition and frequent many of the businesses that support you through their advertising directed our way.
