Police believe man scaled office's second-floor patio to steal iPad | Police Notes

The following are selected reports from the Seattle Police Department. They represent the officers’ accounts of the events described.

Aug. 1

GTA: A vehicle was reportedly stolen from a location near the intersection of 43rd Avenue East and East Madison Street around 2:30 p.m.

Aug. 2

PROWL: Personal property was stolen from a car parked near the corner of 17th Avenue and East Cherry Street at approximately 11:50 a.m.

Aug. 3

FRAUD: The fraudulent use of a credit card was reported to have occurred at noon in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue.

Aug. 4

DUI: Officers arrested a person for driving under the influence at 11:35 p.m. in the 1800 block of 23rd Avenue.

BURGLARY: At 8:05 p.m. an officer on patrol responded to a report of a forced-entry residential burglary in the 2400 block of 26th Ave. E. The resident left their house at 8 a.m. and reported coming home at 5:17 p.m. to find drawers and cabinets in the house had been left open, and a window in the front door broken. Desktop and laptop computers were stolen at an estimated loss of $2,500.

Aug. 5

ASSAULT: A nonaggravated assault was reported to have taken place at 1:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of Newport Way.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: The owner of a business in the 400 block of 15th Ave. E. reported the burglary of an upstairs office in his building. He reported iPads had gone missing sometime between close of business Aug. 4 and opening on Aug. 5. The owner had rented the space to five people for a meeting 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4 and thought one of them might have taken the property. However, a responding officer noticed a patio door on one side of the business was unlocked and that access to this door was possible via the roofs of adjacent buildings — indeed, the officer believed he located finger imprints on part of the patio, indicating it had been scaled. Tracking on the iPad indicated it had been moved to a location in Sammamish.

Aug. 10

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: At 9:58 a.m. officers responded to a forced entry burglary at a residence in the 600 block of 21st Ave. E. The complainant reported that she had been checking on her aunt’s house and noticed the front door and screen were open. 

Someone had kicked in the wooden door, causing extensive damage to the frame. Police noted the entire house had been ransacked. Crystalware and fur coats had been stolen.

The complainant said her aunt had recently reported another theft from an unknown white male in his late 20s, whom she had invited into the house for two hours prior to the crime.

CAR THEFT: An automobile theft was reported to have taken place at approximately 2 p.m. in the 3700 block of 43rd Ave. E.

Aug. 13

THEFT: At 9:58 a.m., a theft was reported from a building in the 1700 block of E. Madison St.

Aug. 14

PROWL: Items were reported to have been stolen from a car around 11:30 p.m. in the 800 block of 34th Ave.

Aug. 15

GTA: A car was stolen from the 2500 block of Canterbury Lane East at 1 a.m.

Aug. 16

BURGLARY: At 8:22 p.m. in the 3500 block of E. John St., a homeowner reported an unknown person had entered his home through an open window sometime during the day and taken several precious metal items, including three watches, a gold ring, two silver dollars and up to 20 silver quarters. The total loss was at least $3,620, with some items’ value unknown. 

Aug. 17

SHOPLIFTING: At 12:36 p.m., attempted shoplifting was reported at a store in the 2600 block of 22nd Ave. E.

Aug. 18

DEATH THREATS: At 1:21 p.m., the police crisis response squad responded to a report that a person had been the victim of felony harassment and death threats on July 1, in the 1600 block of E. Olive St

Aug. 19

ASSAULT: Harassment and assault were reported to have taken place at 8:05 a.m. in the 1400 block of E. Pine St. The case was forwarded to the city attorney’s office.

BIKE: A bike was reportedly stolen from the 1100 block of 23rd Ave. around 9 a.m.

Aug. 20

TRESPASS: Trespassing was reported on a property in the 1500 block of E. Madison St. at 12:53 a.m.

Aug. 21

POLICE ASSAULT: At 1:54 p.m., police arrested a person on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and East Union Street for trespassing, obstruction and aggravated assault on a police officer.
