This Oct. 7, the McGilvra Elementary PTA is excited to build upon the success of last year’s Run-a-thon, the school’s only all-school, student-run fundraiser to provide vital support to McGilvra teachers and programs.
The 2016 fundraiser will reprise a familiar magic theme for kids — it’s all about the POOF:
If the school achieves its fundraising goal, everyone is treated to an all-school magic show. If you’d like to donate, go to https://mcgilvra.donortools.com, find your favorite McGilvra student (or two), and make a donation via their personalized link. It’s fast and easy.
“The Run-a-thon is such an important event because it really teaches kids the power of collective action and teamwork,” said McGilvra PTA fundraising chair Cathy Davidson. “We are so grateful to the community, near and far, who are all pitching in to support our kids and our school.”
Last year was the first time the school activated local community businesses to provide donations as incentives to runners. The donations will be collected into a rewards booklet, which will be provided to any child who raises at least $175 in donations. The donations could be anything from a rubber football to a free drink or treat. The idea was such a hit with both kids and businesses, that the PTA is organizing a similar campaign this year. If you are interested in making a donation to contribute to this year’s rewards booklet, contact fundraising@mcgilvrapta.org.
Roger Croshaw, owner of Bert’s Red Apple (title sponsor of the Run-a-thon) still lives in the neighborhood and remembers attending McGilvra Elementary School: “We are excited to be a sponsor. McGilvra plays a major role in our community and we are honored to be part of their team”.
When asked why they choose to support the McGilvra Run-a-thon, Mackenzie Deiman, branch manager for the Madison Park Wells Fargo Bank says, “We take pride in supporting a movement that enriches our community. We are excited to take part in this year’s run-a-thon again!”
Community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on the students, and watch out for neighborhood kids canvassing or making email appeals for their individual fundraising campaigns. Contributions can be made up until a week after the Run-a-thon. The event is on Oct. 7 on the McGilvra Elementary playfield (1617 38th Ave. E.), 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The community spirit of McGilvra and local Madison Park businesses are summed up perfectly by Karen and Terry Hoffman, owners of Madison Park Bakery: “We provide the energy and the kids provide the fun.”
