Charles the Clown seeks audience for free June children’s performance

Local celebrity Charles The Clown is shooting a new video at the Ravenna Eckstein Community Center on Sunday, June 30, and is in need of children 4-8 to attend the free performance.

The June 30 show celebrates 60 years and more than 12,000 performances by Charles Kraus, who starts each show by letting children watch him make the transformation to Charles The Clown.

“They see that the person under the make-up and rainbow wig is a regular guy.  Teachers and librarians have often commented about Charles’ comedy rhyming, word-play and silly verbal antics,” a news release states. “The act encourages a love of language and the joy of being verbally creative.”

Kraus has appeared on 75 television shows, authored four books and more than 100 newspaper and magazine essays. He is a recipient of the King County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Humanitarian Award for Community Service, and previously served on the Washington Task Force on Child Safety.
