On May 18, in spite of some downpours, intermittent sun and sprinkles- the Madison Park Garden Tour was attended by more than 300 people!

Thank goodness for Seattle hardy stock. The 15 gardens on the tour offered a variety of gardening styles, inventive use of outdoor spaces, and beautiful plantings. Thanks so much to the gracious homeowners who opened their gardens, welcomed all visitors, offered plant advice, history and sometimes bee hives, and mimosas. Thanks also to our many volunteers who made this day possible. A day of smiling faces and inviting spaces.

Our Madison Park planters will be arriving soon — or may be there by the time you read this paper. Thanks so much to the donors who have helped us bring 10 blooming and evergreen planters to the business district. We are still needing to raise funds for their upkeep and for phase II of the Beautify Madison Park project. Hopefully in the Fall, we will be able to add more containers and refurbish plantings under many of the trees along E Madison. See how you can help on our website www.friendsofmadisonpark.com.

Mark your calendars for the free Children’s Parade and Picnic Saturday, July 13 from 12-2 p.m. Meet for the parade at 11:45 a.m. by Wells-Fargo Bank, add a fire truck, decorations, games, snow cones, music and crafts, hotdogs and more- all the fixings for our classic family event in Madison Park.

Also SAVE THE DATE for the return of the Music in the Park Series every Thursday in August. It will start from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1. Bands this year are Buena Vibra, Montalke Traffic, the Daddz, Red 28 and the Humbuckers. Grab a picnic blanket, your family and friends and come enjoy our annual music festival. More details coming very soon.

It’s not too early to be planning for the Art Walk, beginning Sept. 6. And Party for the Park, Oct. 12 at the Seattle Tennis Club- our annual fundraiser for Friends of Madison Park.

Friends of Madison Park will officially be one year old on June 26. It’s been an extraordinary year of organizing and gatherings and a return to being engaged in our community through events and projects and pipe dreams. FOMP began from scratch and with a boost from the former Madison Park Community Council, we have blossomed into a neighborhood organization that provided monthly events from Warmth and Wine to Tuesday TED Talks to an Easter Egg Hunt, to a Garden Tour and holiday gatherings and Spring Clean Up.

Please join us as we grow and reach more of our neighbors and beyond. This coming year  promises to bring more delight and outreach and more ideas to benefit our community for generations to come.

As always, 3 simple ways to support Friends of Madison Park and know what is happening locally:
