Madrona library to close for renovation

The Madrona-Sally GoldmarkLibrary, 1134 33rd Ave., is tentatively scheduled to close April 21 at 6 p.m. for renovation. This date is pending the selection of a general contractor for the project.

April 21 is the last day to pick up an item on hold or check out or return materials at the Madrona-Sally Goldmark. The book drop, however, will stay open until 5 p.m. May 4.

After the branch closes, the staff will send the books and other materials out of the building and store the collections and furniture.

During the closure, library staff will continue community outreach to children and young adults, make school visits in the area and staff nearby libraries.

The closest branches to the Madrona library are Douglass-Truth, 2300 E. Yesler Way, and Montlake, 2401 24th Ave. E.

Madrona Library users may choose any other library location as a pickup location for items placed on hold, interlibrary loan requests or purchase suggestions; they also may return materials to any branch. If no alternate branch is selected, holds will be sent to Douglass-Truth.

Pending the selection of a general contractor, construction work will begin after the building is emptied. The converted firehouse, which became a library branch in 1973, will reopen later this year or early next year.

Contracting bids for the $330,000 project are due at 2 p.m. April 12; call Thomas Isarankura, with Heliotrope Architects, at 297-0589 for more information.
