OPERATION SANTA CLAUS: helpers needed

Get in the Christmas Spirit! Come help Santa answer letters from local kids that would otherwise go unanswered this year.

Staff and volunteers at the Church of Scientology and friends and neighbors in the community have been answering children's letters to Santa from all over the United States for 14 years. They welcome your help again this holiday season.

This year's Santa event is set for Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 300 W. Harrison St. Come for an hour or several. The local Post Office is providing the letters; Santa Ops provide the stationery, stamps, food and holiday music.

The genesis of all this was in New York City in the 1920s, when a handful of postal clerks began to answer letters from needy children of all ages from all over the world. Today, Operation Santa Claus goes on in many cities throughout the United States.
