Detta Vertrees was born April 21, 1940, on Bainbridge Island and died Sept. 3 in her home on West Olympic Place on Queen Anne.
Detta was a beautiful human being both inside and out and never left anyone without a smile on their face. She had a heart of gold and always gave freely of her time anytime she saw someone less fortunate.
I was fortunate enough to have met Detta four years ago when I moved to Seattle and we became friends almost overnight. She was like a mother to my partner, and I can honestly say that our lives are a lot richer because of the short time that we knew her!
A memorial service will be announced later.
