Rainier District Little League play heats up during weeks two and three

The boys and girls of Rainier District Little League ramped up their baseball seasons with the play of numerous games throughout the south end.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SECOND-WEEK ACTION:

JUNIORS DIVISION

Rainier Rotary Club 19 - West Seattle 9


Alex King hit a two-run home run and Valentino Coleman followed with a three-run blast to lead the Rainier Rotary Club Lions to a 19-9 victory over the West Seattle Pirates on April 16, 2007, at Brighton Field.


MAJORS DIVISION

Coastal Kitchen 6 - Seattle Steelheads 5


Joe Hardy pitched two shutout innings and Jannaro Ealy-Peredo registered the save by pitching two additional solid innings as Coastal Kitchen edged the Seattle Steelheads 6-5 in a hard-fought contest played at Rainier Beach High School on April 17, 2007. Hardy and Ealy-Peredo also each had two hits in the victory.

Stewart Lumber 9 - Prestige Custom Builders 7

The Stewart Lumber Men In Black took advantage of a six run first inning and then held on for a 9-7 win over Prestige Custom Builders on April 17, 2007. Stewart Lumber pitchers Zach Hamrich and Azor Cole combined for ten strikeouts, while Andre McRae provided the offensive punch for the Men In Black by driving in four runs on a double and a home run. Jalen Combs led Prestige's offense with three hits, but Stewart Lumber held on for the victory.

Dr. Baker 8 - Seattle Steelheads 0

Dr. Baker shut-out the Seattle Steelheads 8-0 in Majors Division action on April 19, 2007.

Coastal Kitchen 9 - Prestige Custom Builders 0

Joe Hardy pitched three perfect innings and swatted two hits to lead Coastal Kitchen to a 9-0 shutout win over Prestige Custom Builders on April 19, 2007. Caleb Angel and Connor Jalbert both scored twice, and Brad Bloedei pitched two shutout innings to aid the Kitchen victory.


MINORS DIVISION

Kohl Construction 11- Windermere Real Estate 3


Noam Posner hit a grand slam home run to give Kohl Construction the early lead and the Falcons rolled to an 11-3 win over Windermere Real Estate in Minors Division action on April 16, 2007. Henry Knight pitched two scoreless innings and Christian Johnson drove in two runs to lead the Falcons. Windermere loaded the bases in the fourth inning and pushed across two runs to keep the pressure on Kohl.

Burdick Security 15, Memphis Red Sox 5

Jonathan Sassoon and Dominick Lewis pitched the Burdick Security Black Hawks to a 15-5 win over the Central District's Memphis Red Sox on April 17, 2007. Roger Howard struck out four Black Hawks to quiet the Burdick bats in the late innings.

Burdick Security 10 - Kohl Construction 9

Burdick Security outlasted Kohl Construction 10-9 in exciting Minors Division action on April 19, 2007, at Van Asselt Field on Beacon Hill. Ben Koerner shut down the slugging Falcons in the fifth inning to preserve the win for the Black Hawks. Lead off batter Henry Knight had three hits for previously undefeated Kohl Construction.

Memphis Red Sox 13 - All City Fence 9

The Memphis Red Sox outlasted the All City Fence Green Falcons 13-9 in Minors Division action on April 19, 2007, at Rainier Field in the valley.

Nelson Trucking 7 - Montgomery Grey Sox 5

The Nelson Trucking Rockets rallied in the fifth inning for a come from behind victory over the Central District's Montgomery Grey Sox on April 19, 2007. Morya Echols made a nice running catch of a pop fly to slam the door on a Grey Sox rally midway through the game, and then singled home Jackson Droegge in the fifth for an insurance run as the Rockets won their second game of the season. Avichai Almoslino stole second, third and home in one inning for the victors.

Nelson Trucking 18 - Memphis Red Sox 14

The Nelson Trucking Rockets edged the Memphis Red Sox 18-14 in a game played at Rainier Field on April 21, 2007. The exciting game was tied at the end of the second and third innings, before Nelson Trucking pushed across five runs in the final frame to pull out the victory. Morya Echols led the Rockets with three hits, and Raphael Smithers hammered out two. Matt Sadang pitched the final inning to preserve the win for the Rockets, limiting the Red Sox to just one run. Harrison Chotzen led Memphis with three runs scored.


ROOKIES DIVISION

Jorve Roofing 5 - Chicago American Giants 2


Jorve Roofing outlasted the Chicago American Giants 5-2 in Rookies Division action on April 16, 2007.

Golf Savings Bank 2 - Brian Billones Realty 0

Golf Savings Bank blanked Brian Billones Realty 2-0 on April 18, 2007.


WEEK THREE

Rainier Little League baseball rolled into its third week of the season with spirited play around the south end. The week was highlighted by Picture Day, where all players are photographed individually and with their team.


JUNIORS DIVISION

Paracom Rainier Reds 10 - South Highline Mariners 2


Erick Pape, Sam Timpe, Kaanan Hart and Jordan Leonard pitched the Rainier Reds to a 10-2 victory over the South Highline Mariners in Juniors Division action at Brighton Field on April 26, 2007. Hart had three hits and broke the game open with a two-run home run to straightaway center. Pape and Liam McFeely helped the Reds turn two double plays on defense.

Paracom Rainier Reds 3 - South Highline Athletics 1

Erick Pape and Sam Timpe hurled no-hit ball through six innings, and the Paracom Rainier Reds eked out enough runs to defeat the South Highline Athletics 3-1 in a classic pitchers' duel at North SeaTac Park on April 23, 2007. Pape and Timpe picked off an Athletic runner at second base for the second out in the last inning to quell a South Highline rally, while Graham Tumbaga made a shoe-string catch in right field to rob the Athletics of a hit earlier in the game.

Paracom Rainier Reds 22 - Renton South 1

Pitchers Liam McFeely, Sam Timpe, Hank Droegge and Erick Pape held the opposing batters to one run and Kaanan Hart hit a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the second as the Paracom Rainier Reds rolled to a 22-1 victory over South Renton at Rainier Field on April 21, 2007. In addition to Hart's blast, Pape, Droegge, Adam Moshcatel and Collin Evenson had big hits for the Reds.


MAJORS DIVISION

Coastal Kitchen 12 - Prestige Custom Builders 5


Bradley Bloedel pitched three innings of two-hit ball and struck out 7 batters to lead Coastal Kitchen to a 12-5 victory over Prestige Custom Builders on April 26, 2007. Janarro Ealy-Peredo added three hits, including two doubles, and Kai Wiseman had two hits and scored two runs for the Kitchen. Elijah Browne hit a solo homerun and a double, and Darby Blake scored twice for Prestige.


MINORS DIVISION

Nelson Trucking 11 - Memphis Red Sox 10


Henry Jacobson knocked in the tying run and Morya Echols knocked in the winning run as the Nelson Trucking Rockets rallied for five runs in the bottom of the final inning to take an 11-10 victory over the Central District's Memphis Red Sox under sunny skies at Rainier Field on April 28, 2007. Winter Tumbaga, Kevin Kitnikone and Jackson Droegge added big hits for the Rockets in their final at bat, while Will McDonald held the Red Sox to one run in the top half of the inning to give Nelson Trucking the chance to come from behind.

Kohl Construction 9 - Montgomery Grey Sox 6

Henry Knight and Carsten Rossen each pitched two innings of solid baseball to lead the Kohl Construction Falcons to a 9-6 win over the Central District's Montgomery Grey Sox in Minors Division action on April 28, 2007. Catcher Dillon Yamamoto cut down two Grey Sox runners trying to steal second base, and Tyler Solemsass turned an unassisted double play for the Falcons.

Kohl Construction 12 - Nelson Trucking 8

Ben Evans got the win and Dillon Yamamoto the save as the Kohl Construction Falcons held off a Nelson Trucking Rockets' rally to win a 12-8 game at Van Asselt Field on April 26, 2007. Nelson Trucking's Ian McManus hit a triple to deep left field in the bottom of the final frame, but the Rockets' rally came up short. Kohl Construction ran their record to 4-1 and moved into second place in the Minors Division, just a game behind Burdick Security.

All City Fence 16 - Windermere 3

The All City Fence Green Falcons bested the Windermere Ravens 16-3 on April 24, 2007, behind the stellar pitching of B.J. Dondoyano, who struck out eight batters in four innings of work. The Ravens, the youngest team in the Minors Division, showed continued improvement on offense and defense.

The Burdick Security Black Hawks continued their undefeated season with a doubleheader victory over the All City Fence Green Falcons on April 22, 2007. Jonathan Sassoon pitched the Black Hawks to victory in the first game, and he had to be at his best as the Green Falcons' Kendall Fournier nearly matched him pitch for pitch. Albert Hanan had an RBI double in the fourth inning to secure the victory for the Black Hawks. In the second game of the twin bill, Burdick starter Janak Preston held the Falcons to one run in three innings and knocked in two runs of his own with the bat. Che'lon McLennan pitched well under pressure in relief for All City Fence.

Nelson Trucking 18 - Memphis Red Sox 14

The Nelson Trucking Rockets edged the Memphis Red Sox 18-14 in a game played at Rainier Field on April 21, 2007.
