Remembering a tragic day five years ago

An "interfaith service of prayer and hope on the fifth anniversary of 9/11" entitled "Moving Forward Together," the service drew people from all over Seattle to "lament for those who died and those who still suffer as a result of the attacks of September 11 and the conflicts following and continuing to this day."

While focused on remembering the shocking events that toppled New York City's twin World Trade Center towers in 2001, the service also sought to help "repent our own participation in the world's violence and seek forgiveness, to express our longing for peace, and to share our hope for... a future where mutual respect for our common humanity will, with God's help, overcome all that threatens to divide us."

The crowded service featured Jewish, Muslim, and Christian songs and prayers presented by local leaders from each religious community.[[In-content Ad]]
