Studio East presents Goldilocks and 'Twas the Night - StoryBook Theater kicks off seventh

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears

StoryBook Theater kicks off its seventh season at Kirkland Performance Center with its own wacky adaptation of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.

"Breakfast, breaking and entering, and bear hugs highlight this musical fable about steamy porridge, musical chairs and bumpy beds. Goldilocks meets some not-very-scary bears and learns an important lesson in this light-hearted look at the importance of honesty and good behavior."

StoryBook Theater has become a regional favorite when it comes to great, but inexpensive theater for families with young children. The company presents wacky, original musical fairy tales, created specifically for very young audiences - ages 3 through 9 - and the whole family. The 55-minute performances feature adult professional actors, accompanied by an on-stage musician. After the performance the actors take questions from the youngsters in the audience.

A StoryBook play is a wonderful way to introduce your child (or grandchild) to the joy and magic of live theater. Although the shows are aimed at the kids, they are designed to entertain adults as well.

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears opens at KPC on November 13 and plays through the 21st. Saturday performances are at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $7.50, plus the KPC box office service fee. For tickets and information, call the KPC box office at 893-9900.

StoryBook Theater presents weekday school matinees for daycare, preschool, kindergarten and primary grade school groups. Tickets are only $6, and the minimum group size is ten tickets. StoryBook Theater is a production of Kirkland-based Studio East, Training for the Performing Arts. The original adaptations are written and directed by Lani Brockman, Artistic Director at Studio East. The music and lyrics are created by Kirkland musical artist, Susan Bardsley, who also serves as accompanist for most performances.

'Twas the Night...

The mice are hungry, the cat's on the prowl, mom and dad are trying to get the kids to bed, and guess who's on the way. No one knows it yet, but this cozy little world is about to go totally insane. 'Twas the Night... ' runs from November 27 through December 19 at Studio East.

Add a hefty dose of laughter to your holiday shopping list this season-order your tickets now for one of Kirkland's favorite holiday treats as the run is usually sold out by December 1. 'Twas the Night... is an original musical comedy based loosely on the familiar Christmas poem.

'Twas The Night ... was written by Studio East artistic director Lani Brockman and Susan Bardsley - the same talented duo who create all the wacky children's musicals for StoryBook Theater, the Studio's adult professional touring company. For 'Twas The Night..., Brockman and Bardsley collaborated on the adaptation, and the latter created the music and lyrics.

'Twas The Night... Performances are at 402 6th Street South and are Fridays at 7; Saturdays at 10 a.m., and 1, 4, and 7 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $11 and can be ordered at 827-3123. Suitable for the whole family; no infants please.
