Measles exposure at Sea-Tac Airport

Local public health officials confirmed a child, who was contagious with measles, traveled through Sea-Tac International Airport. The child likely was exposed to measles while overseas.

The infected person was at Sea-Tac airport on May 16 from 6:20 to 10 p.m. in Concourse A and Baggage Claim. If you are not immune to measles and did contract it, you will likely become sick between June 1 and 16. The person didn’t go anywhere else while contagious.

Most people in Seattle have immunity through vaccination, but it’s important to find out if you’ve been vaccinated and to call your doctor if you were at Sea-Tac and become sick within the coming weeks.

If you develop a fever or illness with unexplained rash, call your doctor before going to the hospital or a doctor’s office to avoid further exposure.

Measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease. Symptoms include fever, rash, cough and red, watery eyes. People will show symptoms one to three weeks after exposure.
