After years of planning and work, the full length of the State Route 520 bicycle and pedestrian trail across Lake Washington opened on a chilly morning last week. By the end of the first day, more than 1,800 cyclists, runners and walkers had traversed the 2.75-mile long bridge via the path.

Steve Peer, spokesperson for the Washington Department of Transportation, said the trail started as a grassroots effort with multiple local organizations taking marked interest in the path.
