Community Corner: McGilvra springs into action

McGilvra Elementary’s online spring auction has concluded with great success, surpassing our fundraising goal by 15 percent.

This year’s online event, Spring Into Action, was a huge collaborative effort between Cathy Davidson, Elizabeth Fleming and the many parents, faculty and staff who donated fun and valuable items and experiences.

We rely on the funds raised by our PTA to pay for reading and math specialists, the art program and the resources to keep a teacher in every classroom. Some of the most popular fundraising events were those hosted by teachers and staff. These events showed that, for McGilvra students, it’s the chance to spend time with friends and favorite teachers that is truly valued. Whatever form they take, these events display the strength of the community that surrounds the school.

In April, several teams from McGilvra participated in the Math Olympiad at the International School in Bellevue. We are proud to report that every McGilvra team advanced to the “excellent” category. Congrats to all of our Wildcat math-letes. Keep up the great work!

McGilvra’s on-site garden has been bursting with blooms and activity this spring, thanks to the dedication to volunteer Nori Hawkens. Students have been participating in planting, and participating in garden recess and garden art class—sketching plants and roots systems, thanks to the recent spate of good spring weather.
