Student exhibits on display at Pioneer Hall July 23

Recent Washington State History Day winning exhibits from the community’s middle and high school students will be displayed at the Pioneer Hall, 1642 43rd Ave. E. from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday,  July 23.

The showcase is sponsored by the Colonial Dames of Washington.

Each student researched a topic related to this year’s theme, “Taking a Stance in History,” and spent months preparing the project with a convincing conclusion.

Over 10,000 students in Washington state participate in the program.  Each student uses a number of information research sources including  primary references and personal interviews to prepare a well-written and organized project which is then judged at the regional level. Quality entrants go on to the state level, and then approximately 50 of state winners are sent to the national contest.  Participants not only become engaged in history, but also develop valuable lifelong lessons in research, organization, presentation, and public speaking skills.
