Seattle Public Schools gathering feedback on 2019 operations, capital levies

Seattle Public Schools is hosting a series of meetings as it develops two school funding levies planned for the February 2019 ballot.

The three-year 2019 Operations Levy will be a renewal of one that’s expiring, and it represents 20 percent of the district’s general fund budget, and go toward school supplies, security, student activities and other services, such as providing school nurses and counselors, according to SPS.

The six-year 2019 Building Excellence V (BEX V) Capital Levy is a renewal of the expiring BEX IV, and funding from that levy will be used for seismic upgrades at school facilities, increasing space for students, maintenance projects and repairing and replacing school buildings.

The Seattle School Board will decide on capital and technology projects to be included in the BEX V levy in the fall.
One community feedback meeting will be held 6:30-8:15 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Seattle World School, 1700 E. Union St.
