Macrina Café replacing shuttered Tully's Coffee in Capitol Hill

The former Capitol Hill Tully’s space will serve coffee again — and a bevy of baked goods — as Macrina Bakery builds out the 19th Avenue East building for its fifth café.

Facing multiple financial issues, Tully’s Coffee exited its space at 746 19th Ave. E. last November, after having served that part of the Hill for 20 years.
Whatever the defunct coffee shop stood for in the neighborhood, a Macrina news release states it hopes to bring the spirit of the Surrogate Hostess bakery that preceded it back to the Hill.

“Macrina’s mission is to enrich communities through the joy of artisan baking and many local residents reached out to Macrina when the space became available,” according to a news release. “Macrina turns 25 later this year. Adding a fifth café in one of Seattle’s great neighborhoods is a memorable way to celebrate this milestone anniversary.”

Leslie Mackie opened Macrina Bakery in 1993, and later her Macrina Café concept after adding pastries, sandwiches, cakes, tarts and more on top of the company’s artisanal breads.

The new café will feature these items, a full range of coffee beverages and a weekend brunch.
Other Macrina Café locations are in Belltown, Queen Anne, Sodo and Kent.

Look for the Capitol Hill café to open later this year, and keep up to date by following Macrina Bakery on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
