Mount Baker business owner and previous Seattle City Council candidate Pat Murakami has filed her campaign for the District 3 seat, making her the second challenger Councilmember Kshama Sawant will face leading up to next year’s primary.

Murakami challenged Lorena González for the at-large Position 9 in 2017. Gonzalez was first elected to the council in 2015, and defeated Murakami by nearly 70 percent.

Murakami is the president of the Southeast Seattle Crime Prevention Council and former president of Mount Baker Community Club. Her sister, Paula Harris, is acting as her campaign treasurer.

The Madison Park Times is working to contact Murakami for a candidate profile.

Murakami is the second challenger to Sawant, who has yet to announce a re-election campaign. Entrepreneur nonprofit director Beto Yarce announced his District 3 campaign in late November.
