The Northwest School sixth-grader Asa Whitehead chose raising money for the Sierra Club as his action project. The Leschi resident raised $79 at his lemonade and cookie stand over two days.

He tells the Madison Park Times he chose the Sierra Club “because they help combat global warming.” The Northwest School requires students to choose an action project that addresses a global issue important to them.

Whitehead made the cookies with help from his mother, Jean Hicks, who tells MPT her son may launch the stand again sometime this summer.
