Ivy Demolition Day at Beaver Lodge Sanctuary on May 19

After tackling invasive ivy during an Earth Day work party, Gene and Liz Brandzel are inviting the community to come out to the Beaver Lodge Sanctuary to finish the job 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19.

The longtime stewards of the natural area and 37th Avenue East street end, the Brandzels are calling this event Ivy Demolition Day. Tools will be provided, and people need only to wear long pants and shirts.

Located on the northeast border of Broadmoor, meeting the water’s edge at Lake Washington, the Beaver Lodge Sanctuary has been a labor of love for the Brandzels for the past decade. Benches and a gravel pathway were added over the years, as well as a welcome sign.

People can reach the Beaver Lodge Sanctuary by following East McGilvra Street to where it ends just past 38th Avenue East.
