Work ramping up on East Prospect Street end

Efforts to rid the East Prospect Street end of invasive ivy and blackberries are being ramped up to make the window for planting native vegetation in the restoration area this fall.

Work to restore the waterfront street end and make it a greater amenity for the neighborhood began in June, led by Madison Park resident Gene Brandzel, with the support of SDOT and a crop of local volunteers.

In order to be ready for fall planting, Brandzel is organizing informal work parties every Saturday and Sunday, leading up to a grand work party 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

Shoreline Street Ends Program coordinator Omar Akkari and Brandzel will share the East Prospect Planting Plan during a community meeting 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Madison Park Bathhouse, 1898 43rd Ave. E.
